Benedetto Bordone

A man of many talents, Benedetto Bordone of Italy was adept in map making. His map making skills were instrumental in establishing him as a leading map maker of his time. Born in Venice, Benedetto Bordone was also an expert miniaturist and manuscript editor.

Benedetto Bordone added a new dimension to the conventional maps and the process of cartography. One of his most famous works – “Isalorio” incorporated different places on the map according to the climates, cultures, history etc. The Isalorio brought him great popularity and recognition. The names of some of his works apart from Isolaris are Mondo Novo, the maps showing Temistitan, Terra Del Laboratore etc. His son Julius was a renowned scholar too.
