Diego Ribero was also known by the name of Diego Ribeiro, Diego de Ribero and Diego Ribeira. He was a famous Spanish cartographer as well as an explorer.
Cartographer Diego Ribero had a remarkably successful career. He began his career as a map maker at Casa de Contratación in Seville in 1518. After he became a Spanish citizen in 1519, he involved himself in developing the maps, which were used for the first circumnavigation of the Earth. On 1523,
he was conferred upon the title of "master in the art of creating maps, astrolabes, and other instruments".
In 1527, Ribero completed the construction of the Padrón real, which was the original and confidential official map of Spain. This map is till date used as a guide for all the Spanish ships. The copies of Padrón real can be found in Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana and Weimar Library (Mundus Novus).
Diego Ribero became extremely famous for producing the first scientific map of world. This map included mention of the coasts of South, Central America and the Indian subcontinent. The dividing line of the Treaty of Tordesillas was clearly shown in this map.
Diego Ribero expired in 1533. During his life time he was known for his achievements. However, amongst all his achievements, the success of Padrón real and World Map are the most notable ones.
