Carl Diercke

A German cartographer, Carl Diercke is a well known name in map making. He was the son of Louise Dorothee and Carl Friedrich Daniel Diercke. As the family used to travel a lot, Carl attended schools in different places like Stendal, Berlin and Kyritz. He received a teacher training in the early 1860s to teach geometry, natural history, French, chemistry, geography, education and other allied subjects. He was also designated as the director of a teacher seminar in the city of Osnabruck around 1885. His professional career began in Riga as a private teacher. Carl Diercke married Marie Hermione Ottilie Lucas and had 8 children. He died in Berlin-Wilmersdorf at the age of 70 years and was buried in Schleswig-Friedrich.
