Rigobert Bonne was a significant cartographer during the period of late 18th century. He was born in the year of 1727. Jacques Bellin was superseded by Bonne as Royal Cartographer to France in the office of the Hydrographer situated at the Depot de la Marine in the year of 1773. During work period of Bonne, he made some of great maps, which were accurate and detailed. These were the best Works of Rigobert Bonne. He was indeed one of the important Map Makers of Modern Era.
Rigobert Bonne's work was a remarkable step in the progress of the cartographic ideology, which was widely different from the artistic work of the 17th and early 18th century. These were much more accurate and detailed with practical aesthetics and were also devoid of hand coloring, compass roses, elaborate decorative and cartouches. The style of the maps created by Rigobert Bonne however had a strong influence of his predecessor, Bellin.
As Royal Hydrographer, the main interest of Rigobert Bonne was the production of marine charts with special emphasis on the coastal regions. However, he had also indulged in other works of maps, like maps for an atlas by Guillaume Raynal and for a Historical Atlas and Encyclopedia published in alliance with Nicholas Desmaret. This legendary soul left the earth in the year of 1795.
